Effect of Accommodation on Peripheral Higher Order Aberrations

Knowledge of the effect accommodation on image quality peripheral retina is crucial for better understanding visual system, but only a few studies have been carried out in this area. This study was designed to evaluate higher order aberrations from third sixth Zernike polynomials central and up 23° off-axis. We used Hartmann–Shack aberrometer measure coefficients with both accommodated non-accommodated eyes 15 healthy subjects. Each coefficient, total aberrations, spherical astigmatism were compared between status. Additionally, retina. Accommodation induced significant changes vertical pentafoil C5?5 secondary tetrafoil C6?4 retina, C4?2 temporal tertiary C6?2 10° nasal trefoil C5?3 horizontal C44, C64 inferior (p < 0.05).
